Our Story
From a family's garage to a community movement.
It began in a garage.
In 2014, the Acosta Family started Food Bank Warriors — not with a warehouse or a budget, but with their own hands and their own means. From their garage in Bloomington, California, they cooked and gave away warm meals to neighbors who were going without. It was simple, personal, and born entirely out of love for their community.
A dream became a movement.
What started as a few homemade meals didn't stay small for long. As word spread, those warm plates turned into cases of food, the cases grew into pallets, and the pallets became truckloads. A family's quiet act of kindness had become a movement — neighbors helping neighbors, refusing to let anyone go hungry.

The mission continues.
Today, that same mission lives on as Planting Hands Food Bank. Under new leadership but with the very same heart, we've grown to serve San Bernardino, the Bay Area, and surrounding communities — helping more than 150 families every week and over 18,000 people each year, while rescuing good food that would have gone to waste. From a garage to truckloads, from one family to an entire community — this is what compassion can grow into.
